What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin type A and type B are derived from a bacteria and are purified substances that block muscular nerve signals. Injecting very tiny amounts of Botox® into face muscles blocks the muscles impulse which then temporarily makes the muscle weak and eliminates the unwanted lines and wrinkles that can begin to appear due to the aging process. Botox® is best used for the area and wrinkles between the eyebrows, but it may also be effectively used for other facial areas. Wrinkles in the facial area may be caused when a muscle tightens. The substance is injected through the skin into the muscle which keeps the muscle from tightening and since the it can not tighten the wrinkle no longer appears as prominently. Only the treated muscle can't move.

Are there Botox Side Effects & Risks?
Having a botox injection may have certain effects
on patients so it is important to know the risks.
You may experience a side effect such as droopy eyelids,
a sickness such as flu or a headache or upset stomach,
and a small chance of botulism. You should not have
a botox injection if you are taking muscle relaxers,
are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder or have any
inflammation near the spot where injections would
be given.
Are there Botox Alternatives?
Botox is not the only answer to wrinkles or aging
skin. A patient that is interested in improving their
facial area and skin may also consider injectables
such as collagen, fat injections or transfers, Gore-Tex,
or Fibril. A cosmetic surgery such as a forehead lift,
facelift, or neck lift may also achieve the desired
results. Lastly, a laser skin resurfacing procedure
may achieve the goals that the patient has for the
skin. It is best to speak with your botox doctor or
a dermatologist regarding your options.
Is Botox Treatment Popular?
Over the years Botox® injections haev turned into the quickest growing cosmetic procedure, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In 2001, roughly two million people received a botox injection, which is almost an increase of fifty percent from the previous year. This cosmetic procedure has become more popular than breast augmentation surgeries due to its ease, relative affordability, convenience, and minimal risks.
What is a Botox Party?
Events known as Botox® parties are a key element of Botox® marketing in much of the US. These "parties" are thought to be a convenient way of providing Botox treatment more efficiently and affordably, and may help reduce the anxiety that normally goes along with getting Botox® the first time. A group of people will mingle in a common area and one by one they are brought into a private room for a short period of time where they will receive a botox injection from a licensed practitioner after paying a small fee and signing some forms. Doctors are finding that treating people in groups allows them to make the procedure more affordable to their patients.
